The Centre for European Volunteering (CEV) launched the European Volunteering Capital Competition in 2013 to strengthen, inspire and celebrate volunteering and the impact made by volunteers at the local level by giving recognition to municipalities that support and strengthen volunteering, particularly through partnerships with stakeholders from different sectors such as volunteer centres, organisations that involve volunteers, and the for-profit sector.
The winning municipality is chosen from the list of candidates by an international jury of key stakeholders connected with volunteering, representing civil society, the private and for-profit sectors, as well as EU institutions.
The Centre for European Volunteering (CEV)
The Centre for European Volunteering (CEV) is the European network of more than 60 organisations dedicated to promoting and supporting volunteers and volunteering in Europe at European, national or regional level.
The network ensures that:
- the value of high-quality volunteering as an expression of solidarity and European values is understood, supported and celebrated;
- policies & programmes, together with the European social environment, offer inspiration, encouragement and support for high-quality European Volunteering;
- individuals and organisations that are active in the volunteering and civil society sphere share, learn and draw inspiration from each other as part of the CEV .
This allows them to reach thousands of volunteers and volunteer organisations in Europe as a source of support, giving their work a European dimension.
In 2024, Trento will also be the Italian Capital of Volunteering!
The title is awarded by CSVnet, with the patronage of ANCI (national association of Italian municipalities) in collaboration with the Forum Nazionale del Terzo Settore (national third-sector forum) and Caritas Italiana.
The European capital for 2023 is Cosenza: the handover from Cosenza to Trento is scheduled for 5 December 2023.
